The CardioVascular Thoracic Institute (CVTI) at Keck Medicine of USC in Los Angeles offers a full range of services to treat cardiovascular and thoracic concerns. Since 2006, the USC CardioVascular Thoracic Institute has brought together some of the world’s best cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners and other specialists. Our team of more than 200 specialists continues to push the boundaries of treatment, conducting research to innovate and develop new treatments and therapies.
Our team works together to develop a comprehensive plan for each patient, from diagnosis and treatment through follow-up. We begin with state-of-the-art screenings and diagnostic tests to ensure the most complete, accurate assessment of each condition. Next, we determine the best course of treatment for the patient’s condition and lifestyle. We offer advanced non-invasive therapies, minimally-invasive treatments, robot-assisted procedures, traditional surgeries and complete transplant surgeries.
10 Highly Specialized Centers
The USC CardioVascular Thoracic Institute is home to 10 highly specialized centers. Through our interdisciplinary comprehensive care model, our physicians work closely with colleagues across centers and programs to determine the most appropriate treatment for each patient.
Comprehensive Aortic Center
We offer the most advanced care for all types of aortic diseases, including aneurysm, dissection and genetic disorders. We specialize in advanced diagnostic imaging, consultation and surgical or endovascular therapies. We also offer a unique rapid-response program that provides emergency transport to our facility for patients facing aortic emergencies.
Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center
We provide complete clinical and surgical care to patients living with congenital heart disease, including: abnormal heart valve, arrhythmia, atrial septal defect, atrioventricular canal defect, coarctation of the aorta, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, single ventricle, Tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of great arteries (TGA) and ventricular septal defect.
Center for Advanced Heart Failure
We are known for our expertise in innovative cardiac surgery techniques, cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support with ventricular assist devices. Our specialists treat patients with heart failure and cardiomyopathy, with several ongoing clinical trials to develop new techniques.
Center for the Comprehensive Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation
Our expert team focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms, with the latest technologies and close cooperation among nurse specialists, cardiologists, cardiac electrophysiologists and cardiac surgeons. We offer innovative 3D mapping and intercardiac ultrasounds, minimally invasive surgical techniques, combined endocardial and epicardial approaches, medication treatments and wireless arrhythmia monitoring.
Center for Vascular Care
We specialize in comprehensive care of vascular diseases through preventive services, diagnostic expertise and minimally invasive endovascular and traditional surgical techniques. We address common venous diseases, as well as less common conditions such as arteritis, acute traumatic vascular injuries, chronic arterial injuries and entrapment syndromes.
We are dedicated to comprehensive care that slows disease progression, prolongs survival and improves quality of life. As leaders in treating heart failure and arrhythmia, we offer highly specialized diagnostics and can treat many disorders without surgery, through drug therapy or electrophysiological stimulation.
Heart Transplant Program
As a world-recognized leader and innovator in heart transplantation, we provide a full range of operations for acquired heart disease, such as coronary artery disease and arrhythmia. We are one of the few centers on the West Coast that offers the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and other devices that can help patients until a transplant is available.
Lung Transplant Program
We’re recognized as a leader in lung transplantation to treat bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. Additionally, living-related lobar transplantation was developed at Keck Hospital of USC, giving severely ill patients new treatment option.
Women’s Cardiovascular Center
Our mission is to improve comprehensive cardiac care for women through prevention and treatment of the full range of cardiac diseases. Our staff offers innovative therapies proven to extend the lives of women with heart disease, including hypertension, high cholesterol, valve disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure and arrhythmia.
Center for Body Computing
This innovation hub brings together digital and life sciences experts from several disciplines, including many technologists devoted to developing personalized digital healthcare products and services. We work closely with companies and organizations to solve technology and regulatory challenges of bringing digital healthcare products to market.
